Abstract : This paper discusses the experience of SKCIE at Al-Azhar University in the field of research in Islamic Economics (IE). The establishment of the institution went through different stages from the beginning of the eighties till the beginning of the nineties. In 1990 the Centre was officially affiliated to the University instead of its previous affiliation to the Faculty of Commerce and in 1992 its name has changed from the Centre of Research and Islamic Commercial Studies to its current name. The paper looks at various aspects of the Centre; establishment, administration, objects and means, and the various activities undertaken. The paper ends its discussion by looking into some of the advantages, disadvantages and the obstacles that the Centre faces.
