Abstract
:
The paper presents different forms of Margin Trading (MT) provided by brokers in financial markets. Building upon the previous research in this area, the paper focuses on studying MT, from Islamic law prospective, using loan benefit analysis approach, which is more suitable for examining the cases when brokers do not charge explicit interest and trading commissions. The paper concludes that extra benefits of the loans, provided by brokers to traders, go exclusively or mostly to brokers, which make MT unlawful. The paper also discusses the cases of MT that has been permitted by some researchers based on the propositions that financing MT can be independent of the broker or trading commission can be set at the fair price. The paper notices that these cases are unfeasible in the profit-motivated broker industry, and therefore, do not alter the main finding of the paper.
