:
Knowledge and its appropriate management are increasingly recognized as a key strategic resource for successful organizations and a critical resource for sustainable competitive advantage. Thus, organizations are racing to adopt and apply their concepts, especially with technological advances that have helped support knowledge management activities, processes and practices through the stereotyping, facilitation, acceleration and streamlining of knowledge resource management processes. The study aimed to clarify the role of knowledge mapping in building knowledge portals by submitting a proposal for building a knowledge portal that collects knowledge sources and facilitates their availability to serve the objectives of the Mecca Healthcare cluster. The researcher use a case study methodology to prepare requirements for building the new knowledge portal model, using research tools such as qualitative analysis, SWOT analysis and focus group. One of the most important findings of this study was the design of a new knowledge portal model and its application for use through a new interface designed to support knowledge management processes in the healthcare sector. The proposed design achieved a satisfaction rate (95%) of the study sample. The study provided the impact of knowledge mapping in building knowledge portals, through: contributing to clarifying the portal's public perception in terms of advantages, components and characteristics, and its role in facilitating access to knowledge sources after identifying its whereabouts as well as its contribution to identifying experts and suggesting how to communicate with them. The researcher expressed his view that the role of knowledge mapping in the methodology for building a knowledge portal linked to proposing a set of forms of knowledge maps that support each of the methodological steps in the design and construction of knowledge portals. The researcher also proposed a framework for integrating knowledge mapping technology into the design phases of knowledge portals. The most prominent recommendations were the need to adopt the building of the knowledge portal within the objectives of the strategic plan in health gatherings at the Kingdom level while expanding the building of models of knowledge portals capable of dealing with health content. With an interest in studying the challenges and obstacles in the implementation and success of knowledge portals and conducting a comparative study between health knowledge portals in Saudi Arabia.
