In
his letter No. 1464/AN dated 25/11/1423 H., the President of King Abdulaziz
University approved the minutes of the Faculty of Meteorology, Environment
& Arid Land Agriculture’s Council Meeting – including resolution No. 11
which called for the establishment of the Saudi Society for Meteorology on the
college’s premises, in the Meteorology Department. He also formed – for that purpose – a
committee comprised of the department’s faculty members.
Ø
The
dean of the Faculty of Meteorology, Environment & Arid Land Agriculture
asked KAU’s Vice President for Graduate Studies & Scientific Research to
seek the Scientific Council’s approval for the establishment of the Saudi Society
for Meteorology.
Ø
In
its first session in the Academic Year 1425-1426 H. held on 12/8/1424 H.
(October 8, 2003), KAU’s Council issued decree No. 4 thereby establishing the
Saudi Society for Meteorology with its permanent headquarters at the Faculty of Meteorology, Environment & Arid Land
Agriculture – in accordance with the relevant requirements
and regulations of Saudi universities.

In its first session held on 14/8/1425 H.,
KAU’s Scientific Council issued a decree setting up the Founding Committee of
the Saudi Society for Meteorology as follows:

o Dr. Ahmad Bin Othman Al-Amoudi
o Dr. Ahmad Adil Abdul-Halim Hasan
o Dr. Abdul-Mohsin Bin Rajih Al-Shareef
o Mr. Muhammad Bin Salah Al-Zahiri
o Eng. Muhammad Bin Habeeb Al-Bukhari
o Mr. Turki Bin Muhammad Habeeb-Allah

The
Founding Committee will select a chairman at its first meeting; and will
conclude its activities as soon as the general assembly holds its first meeting
and a board of directors is selected. At
that time, it will submit a detailed report of its activities to the general
assembly. The Committee and the Board of
Directors – later on – must implement all regulations governing the activities
of Saudi universities’ scientific societies, as well as those of the Saudi
Society for Meteorology.

Society for Meteorology held its first meeting on 14/1/1426 H. (Feb. 22, 2005).
